The Mission of St. Xavier’s School and Hostel, situated in the North-Eastern boundary of India is very close to the Eastern Myanmar (Burma) border and is at the dead end of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is the part of the Himalayan Mountain ranges and 7,000 ft above the sea level. This Region is having six months of severe winter and six months of raining season. This is one of the most beautiful places in all of Indian sub continent, covered with high mountains at the foot of Himalayas. The development is very slow because of the unfriendly terrain from the part of the government and from other social welfare groups. Therefore this place continues to be backward area in transportation, telecommunication, postal system, Education, medical, social and economical aspects of human life. This mission station was erected initially in the Diocese of Dibrugarh. Then, in 2005, the Diocese of Miao was erected and it became part this new Diocese.
Lazu is one of the many tribal belts in the Diocese. The Catholic Church is established in the year 1990 and this mission is located about 250 km away from the Diocesan center. Here, there are 28 tribal villages speaking a single dialect known as OLLO under our Circle. These villages are on the high mountaintops just because of their health and security reasons.
Thanks to the Fondazione Elena Sapio, the project is nearing completion.
